One Minute Reflection
I believe that what Wirth says regarding the cities being dangerous is not necessarily true. However, I do agree with him in many aspects. He says that cities are places where people become afraid of one another, people become self-centered and less caring for others. I happen to belive this is true because cities are hectic places, in which everybody lives pretty much all of the time in a rush. people live on their schedules and they are always trying to get everything done. Life in the city is selfish. People get used to learning how to do everything on their own and how to deal with day to day situations, such as getting an addres right or a place, by themselves. Commutes is another way in which people from cities have contact, but not necessarily make contact. Trains, Subways and buses are places in which we gather with large masses of people, however, we never tend to make direct or personal contact with none of them. The reason why this is so, is because in large cities we have people from all over the world and we have people with different cultures and costumes. While in some cultures it is friendly and respectful to look at people in the eye and say "hello," in other cultures these types of behaviors can be seen as disrespectful and can get people in a lot of trouble. Therefore, i believe people from cities have gotten used to respect that sort of cultural barrier since people don't really know at first sight who belongs to which religion or culture, and from there just rather treat everybody the same way. As I said before, life in the city is hectic, agitated, busy, complicated and full with daily events, from there, I believe those are the reasons why people have became so drawn in their own selfs and becomes less interested in socializing with people that don't necessarily belong to their constant net of relationships. In regards of cities being dangerous places, I believe the woods are dangerous places, rural areas are dangerous places, so on and so forth. Just because cities tend to be chaotic at times, doesn't mean they necessarily need to be dangerous.

I agree with you with what you said on how people are so focused on getting things done and not caring about no one but themselves.
